Rapscallion Red Panda is back on habitat!

He caused pandemonium when he went for a stroll over to the Botanic Park but now Ravi, the Red Panda, is back on habitat at Adelaide Zoo and just in time for the school holidays.

“Ravi had to complete a quarantine period in our Animal Health Centre as he had been outside of the zoo but now he’s back on habitat.

“Trees have been trimmed and fencing double-checked to make sure he doesn’t go on another adventure.

“He’s proven himself to be a real hit with the Animal Health Centre staff who have cared for him since his escapade. He has been eating well, is relaxed around staff members and has been working on his training skills.

“Ravi and fellow Red Panda Mishry are on display in the zoo’s Bamboo Forest area. The duo are ambassadors for the Red Panda, which is classified by the IUCN as endangered to extinction with a decline in their population across Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar and Nepal,” said Keeper Laura Trollope.

It is hoped that one day the pair will breed and help boost the numbers of this resplendently russet species.

Visitors are encouraged to pay a visit to Adelaide Zoo over the school holidays where they can also take part in the Naturally Wild School Holidays Program.

Young explorers are encouraged to find animal stamps as they move around the site to catch daily animal feeds, listen in to keeper talks and discover new animals like Naga, the 2.8m long Komodo Dragon.

At sister site Monarto Safari Park, kids can also take part in a photo competition using tips to take a picture-perfect snap of the species on habitat, 70 per cent of which are threatened with extinction.
