Adelaide Zoo

Show your stripes this International Tiger Day

Monday 29 July

The zoo is home to five Sumatran Tigers – Kembali, Delilah and their three beautiful cubs Susu, Marni and Ketambe.

The arrival of these cubs was an exciting moment for conservation with only 400 of their species estimated to be left on the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

Celebrated around the world, this special day aims to raise awareness about the threats that tigers are facing in the wild. Pounce in to celebrate these feisty felines and help us spread the word about vital conservation work saving this critically endangered species!

How do we support tigers?

Zoos SA supports tigers through Wildlife Asia which operates a patrol team in the Sontang Village in West Sumatra. The patrol aims to protect the tiger population and works with locals to avoid human and tiger conflict.

Members of the community are employed as forest rangers and help to document illegal activities and track tiger paths.

We also work alongside wildlife organisations across Australia and New Zealand to drive the global transition to Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO). By switching to CSPO, consumers know the oil is produced in a way that aims to protect the last remaining habitat for countless jungle-dwelling creatures. Find out more.
