Here’s what to get the wild ones in your family this Christmas

Christmas is just around the corner (we know – we can’t believe it either!) and our 2020 Christmas Gift Guide is serving up some wild gift inspiration for you this holiday season.

From incredible behind-the-scenes animal experiences to adopting a precious zoo animal and even arriving at Monarto Safari Park for a Lions 360 experience and three-course winery lunch by helicopter, whatever your idea and budget we’ve got you covered.

Unsure of what to get the animal-lover in your life? Here are six ways people can spoil their family and friends while also supporting critical conservation work.

Animal experiences

Both our sites offer a range of exclusive, behind-the-scenes experiences where you can get up close to your favourite animals. Whether it’s having meerkats eat their breakfast from your lap at Adelaide Zoo or hand-feeding an enormous lion some meaty treats at Monarto Safari Park, there are heaps of different ways to share the love with your animal-obsessed humans. Please note some experiences aren’t up and running just yet as per our COVID Management Plan, but you can still purchase an experience voucher to use at a later date.

Wild local offerings

Looking for something that still supports conservation but isn’t so… animal-y? What about a delicious tipple made with saving rhinos in mind? Or perhaps you’d like to create some once-in-a-lifetime memories with a helicopter ride to Lions 360, finished with a mouth-watering three-course lunch?

Adopt an animal

Imagine giving the gift of knowing you’re helping to support your loved one’s favourite animal at the zoo. By adopting an animal at either of our sites, you’ll be helping to provide nutritious food, regular health checks and plenty of stimulating enrichment for that animal, as well as contributing to our crucial breeding programs that have seen endangered species like the Greater Bilby, Przewalski’s Horse and Orange-bellied Parrot released back into the wild.

Decorate your den

Walls looking a little bare? Could your kitchen cupboards do with a little animal-themed update? Our Zoo Shops have a huge range of homewares, ranging from mugs and plates to ornaments and tea towels. You can also bring a little wild fun to your wardrobe with animal pins and a range of pawesome socks and hats.

Zoos South Australia membership

For those looking for a gift that keeps on giving, look no further than a Zoos SA Annual Membership. With an annual membership, your family member or friend will be able to visit both Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park as often as they like throughout the year, as well as enjoy discounts at our Zoo Shop and cafes and free entry to most major zoos around the country. Now that’s a lot of Christmas spirit!

Cr*p Gift Certificates

With over 120,000 animals threatened with extinction worldwide, there’s no better time than Christmas to give a cr*p about conservation. Not only does buying one of our poo-themed gift cards provide a laugh, it helps us save threatened native species like the Tasmanian Devil from extinction. Each gift card comes with both explicit and family-friendly language options and donations over $2 are fully tax deductible.

Still not convinced? Every gift contributes to our vital conservation work and helps us provide a brighter future for animals across Australia and around the world. And if that’s not the best gift ever, we don’t know what is.

The day is here!Monarto Safari Park’s new Visitor Centre is open to the public from 9.30am. #thewildiscalling
