Designing purposeful zoo excursions

This professional learning session supports educators to confidently plan and deliver meaningful zoo excursions that align with curriculum outcomes and the developmental needs of learners.

Using Adelaide Zoo as a case study, teachers will explore how to plan excursions that go beyond logistics to focus on learning intentions, inquiry, and exploration. The session unpacks how to structure pre-visit preparation, maximise engagement on the day, and extend learning back in learning settings.

Participants will engage with practical planning tools and adaptable activities that support curiosity, observation, and connection to animals and nature. The session also considers accessibility, wellbeing, and inclusive practice, supporting educators to design excursions that are positive, achievable, and enriching for all children.

Price: $10–$15 per teacher
