Get hands-on this Science Week and help support local birdlife!

Wednesday 13 August | 10:00 AM & 11:30 AM

Join us at Adelaide Zoo for a special, one-day-only FREE workshop where you’ll build our very own bird box using a locally made Adelaide Hills DIY kit (valued at $62.50). You’ll then take it home, ready to install in your garden, balcony, or backyard.

As part of the experience, you’ll also learn how simple actions at home can help conserve native bird species, many of which are struggling to find safe places to nest.

Why bird boxes matter

Did you know almost 350 Australian wildlife species rely on tree hollows to breed and survive? Sadly, these hollows can take over 100 years to form naturally, and with habitat loss on the rise, artificial hollows are more important than ever.

By building and installing a bird box at home, you’re helping to provide much-needed shelter for birds to rest, breed, and raise their young, and taking real action for conservation!
