It has been brought to our attention that an unapproved item was sold by a third-party vendor at Boo at the Zoo this year, and that this item could present a hazard to children.
The light up fairy floss buckets contain small button batteries in a casing that can be removed from the larger plastic item. According to supplier records, 60 of these buckets were sold at this year’s Boo at the Zoo event.
Zoos SA has vendor protocols in place to ensure that all items sold at our events go through an approval process and that vendors consent to refrain from bringing prohibited items onto the premises. We regret that in this instance, the vendor did not adhere to these requirements, and took it upon themselves to make a last-minute addition to their range without the zoo’s knowledge or approval.
We have strongly encouraged the supplier to refer the matter to the ACCC for review, and conduct a safety recall of this product if it is found to be non-compliant. Zoos SA is further taking action to reinforce event protocols with all external vendors and will be reviewing our procedures to ensure this does not happen at future events.
If you purchased one of these light up buckets, please take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of any user. You can return the product to the supplier for a full refund. Alternatively, we strongly recommend removing the light up pack from the bottom of the bucket and disposing of it responsibly.
