The journey to parenthood for Wang Wang and Fu Ni

Our keepers and veterinary team have been busy over the last 24 hours supporting Wang Wang and Fu Ni during their yearly reproductive window.

Today our team made the decision to proceed with artificial insemination, with one artificial insemination procedure carried out on Fu Ni this afternoon. At this stage, our team will perform a second procedure tomorrow. This reproductive procedure has played an important role in the captive breeding of Giant Pandas around the world due to the species’ unique reproductive biology.

This year marks the third genuine attempt at breeding for Wang Wang and Fu Ni, and we are excited to be closer than ever before to achieving our ultimate goal of welcoming a Giant Panda cub to Adelaide Zoo.

Please note Bamboo Forest is temporarily closed at this important time and visitors should not expect to see Wang Wang and Fu Ni over the next couple of days.
