Gibbon family to grow!

We’re excited to let everyone know that very soon, we’ll be welcoming another adorable White-cheeked Gibbon to the Adelaide Zoo family!

Experienced parents Viet and Rhemus are expecting their third offspring in late November to early December.

Critically endangered in the wild, the infant will mark another important contribution towards the international breeding program working to save this species from extinction, and of course a new playmate for sisters Tien and Nhu!

Meet our gorgeous gibbons!

The species is classified as critically endangered due to a declining trend in the population by at least 80% over the past 45 years.

This is due primarily to deforestation for human settlement, agriculture and the commercial timber trade, and poaching for the wildlife trade.

Adelaide Zoo plays a crucial role in the long-term survival of this species as a fellow partner of the international breeding program working to safeguard this species and many more from extinction.
