Science Week at Adelaide Zoo

Creating zoo homes – do try this at home!

Tuesday 17 August from 5.30pm – 6.30pm

Good, modern zoos have come a long way since the concrete and metal exhibits of the past. These days, we know a key component of an animal’s welfare is tied to its immediate surroundings, so creating the perfect homes for the animals in our care takes a lot of planning, care, science and species-specific knowledge.

Join our dedicated staff for a discussion about how we design animal exhibits to support positive welfare and encourage and accommodate the animals’ wild instincts and behaviours.

Everything from the ground up is considered, including location, plants, signage, breeding requirements, hygiene, and food presentation, as well as facilitating the training and enrichment that forms a daily part of animal welfare here at Zoos SA.

Hear from our expert animal care staff and the team who design our animals’ habitats and learn how to apply the same important principles to your pets at home.

Please note, this event will be held at the Santos Conservation Centre located opposite the Adelaide Zoo main admissions gate.

This is a free ticketed event!

Register your interest below and we’ll let you know when tickets are available.

This event is proudly supported by National Science Week.
