National Science Week at Adelaide Zoo

Creating zoo homes – do try this at home!

Tuesday 24 August from 5:30pm – 6:30pm

Good, modern zoos have come a long way since the concrete and metal exhibits of the past. These days, we know a key component of an animal’s welfare is tied to its immediate surroundings, so creating the perfect homes for the animals in our care takes a lot of planning, care, science and species-specific knowledge.

Join the team who design our animals’ habitats for a discussion about how we design animal exhibits to support positive welfare and encourage and accommodate the animals’ wild instincts and behaviours. Everything from the ground up is considered, including location, plants, signage, breeding requirements, hygiene, and food presentation, as well as facilitating the training and enrichment that forms a daily part of animal welfare here at Zoos SA.

You’ll also hear from our expert animal care staff as they demonstrate training and conditioning concepts that we use at the zoo, and how you can use those at home with your own pets.

Relive the science!

In case you missed it or you want to watch it again, watch back now.

This event is proudly supported by National Science Week.
