Adelaide Zoo

Calling all Panda Lovers!

Have you always dreamt of having your very own pet Panda? Well how about the next best thing – naming two adorable panda cubs from China and visiting them in their birthplace!

Pandamonium is set to sweep the globe with an international competition to help name two adorable four-month-old panda twins from the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China and you can be amongst the action right here at Adelaide Zoo!

The cute cubs have been appointed the first ever Animal Goodwill Ambassadors by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in a bid bring attention to conservation efforts helping to save this endangered species from extinction.

The twin male cubs were born on 16 September 2015 to a 14-year-old panda named Qing He.

People from all over the globe will be able to have a shot at naming this adorable duo simply by submitting a name idea to the campaign website and explaining why it’s the perfect name for one of the cubs.

Winners will not only get to name the celebrity cubs, they will also be invited to visit them at Chengdu Research Base in China.

The search is also on for 17 UNDP Panda Envoys who will get the chance to visit the pandas in their home town through a video sharing contest.

To be in the running to become a Panda Envoy, entrants must upload a video of themselves with a panda at a selected zoo, including Adelaide Zoo, to the campaign website.

The seventeen most creative entries will be selected as the new Panda Envoys who will get a once in a lifetime chance to visit China, meet the pandas at Chengdu Research Base in China and learn about their conservation efforts.

What better excuse to come down and say hi to the southern hemisphere’s only Giant Pandas, right here at Adelaide Zoo.

Our resident celebrity pandas Wang Wang and Fu Ni are part of an international Giant Panda research, conservation and breeding program designed to preserve this endangered species.

Wang Wang (Net Net) was born on 31 August 2005 and Fu Ni (Lucky Girl) on 23 August 2006 both at Woolong Giant Panda Research Centre, China and moved to Adelaide Zoo together in November 2009.

Both competitions are now open with naming winners announced on 22 May and Panda Envoys announced in April. Get in quick and come down to Adelaide Zoo to say hello to Wang Wang and Fu Ni and make your video.
