How your ticket helps our conservation efforts
Classified as endangered in the wild, the primary threats to hippos are illegal and unregulated hunting for meat, the ivory trade and habitat loss due to their reliance on freshwater resources across Africa. The Nile Hippopotamus is classed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
International zoo breeding programs for the species are critically important for safeguarding this remarkable species for the future.
By purchasing a ticket to our Hippo Interactive experience at Adelaide Zoo, you are not only supporting the incredible species in our care, you’re also helping us raise awareness and valuable funds to safeguard their wild cousins. Part of the income generated from our Animal Experiences contributes to the work Zoos SA does in support of a wide number of conservation programs both within and beyond our gates.
