You can drive from the front entrance gate to the car park near the Visitor Centre, passing several exhibits and look-out points along the way. To access the greater Zoo you need to catch the next available Zu-loop Shuttle unless prior arrangements have been made for pre-booked group bookings in your own bus.

No, but you can bring you own picnic to enjoy at the sheltered picnic areas near the Visitor Centre, a fully licensed café is also available to purchase coffee, lunch and light snacks.

There are a number of ways to experience the Zoo including pre-booked Safari Tours for groups, Zu-Loop Shuttle and by foot via the walking track network.

There are several tour options available for pre-booked groups of 22 or more, ranging from 1 to 1.5 hours.   We recommend calling our visitor centre to discuss options and packages.

Zu-loop Shuttles to the wildlife viewing platforms depart the Visitor Centre at regular intervals, but some waiting periods can be experienced on busy days. During these times we recommend visitors explore the walking tracks, enjoy lunch or coffee in the Café, browse the visitor centre and gift shop or make the short walk to the Meerkats and Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby and Chimp enclosures.

Monarto Zoo is easily a full day experience.  We recommend arriving early to make the most of your visit to the Zoo.  A minimum of 4-5 hours is recommended.

From Adelaide take the Monarto exit off the South Eastern Freeway to the Princes Highway and follow the signs.  Approximate travelling time 1 hour - distance approximately 64km from Adelaide CBD to Monarto Zoo.

From the East take the Murray Bridge exit off the South Eastern Freeway to the Princes Highway and follow the signs. Approximate travelling time 15 minutes - distance approximately 14km from Murray Bridge to Monarto Zoo.

For those visitors who prefer not to drive to the Zoo, please contact Link SA for details of bus travel from Adelaide departing from the Central Bus Station (Mon-Sat) Ph 08 85322633. Timetable information is available on their website www.linksa.com.au  Bookings are not required except on Saturdays.

You are welcome to bring your own picnic to the park and shaded picnic areas are available. Food is not allowed on the buses. Barbecue facilities are not currently available.

There are a variety of activities in the Zoo.  Behind the Scenes Tours (for an extra cost) can be booked prior to your arrival and include Cheetah Interactive, Lions at Bedtime, Rhino Interactive, Keeper For A Day and Keeper for a Morning.

• Keeper talks are scheduled daily and can be accessed via the walking tracks or Zu-loop shuttle service.
• Walking tracks will lead you to all the wildlife viewing platforms and range in length from 20 to 90 minutes.
• View the Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby at their walk through exhibit
• View the Meerkat exhibit outside the Visitor Centre.
• Take the short walk from the Visitor Centre to Monarto's world class chimp facility, the latest additon to the Zoo.

Yes we have a lovely function centre out at the waterhole called the Pavilion and is available for weddings, events, birthdays and special occasions.

We operate a Zu-loop shuttle service where visitors are able to view the animals in a natural environment, up close whilst learning about the animals as they experience the Zoo from a combination of the Zu-Loop shuttle, wildlife viewing platforms and Keeper talks.

The animals will be sleepier during hot weather but still active during the colder months as they still need to graze and keep on the move.

Yes they are located at the Visitor Centre and at each of the viewing platforms - Waterhole, Chimpanzees, Windana and the Rhino Boma.

The zoo is open everyday of the year.  If the forecast temperature for Monarto is 40 degrees or above Monarto will be closed.  If the Park does close, public announcements are made via the local radio stations.  It would be advisable to phone the Park prior to visiting on these days to confirm opening/closing status.

Your entrance fee includes access to the Zu-loop shuttle, walking tracks, wildlife viewing platforms and keeper talks.  Safari bus tours are available for groups and we require a booking at least 2 weeks in advance (fees apply).

All our animals have special dietary requirements that require close monitoring, so feeding of animals is not permitted.

Unfortunately not, but touch tables are available within the Visitor Centre where you can experience the sensation of a variety of skins, bones and antlers.
