Zoos SA’s initiative to build a chimpanzee habitat at Monarto Zoo offers an excellent opportunity for the community, corporates, individuals, schools and social groups to be part of building a world-class structure for this endangered species.

‘The continuing destruction of habitat, in combination with the growth in the commercial bushmeat trade in Africa and increased logging activities in Indonesia, have led scientists to suggest that the majority of great ape populations may be extinct in our lifetime.’

Our exhibit will be the largest in the region – approximately 3500 square metres – allowing the group of 2 females and 3 males to roam freely within their environment.

We aim to raise $300 per square metre.  This will enable us to reach our target of $1 million dollars.
