Wombat Muster

What is a wombat muster?

By being involved in Wombat Muster you will be contributing directly to research and conservation of hairy-nosed wombats.

This unique science and conservation expedition is guided by research scientists from Zoos SA, who have worked with Wombats for many years.

This 2-5 day hands-on experience in all aspects of field research including spotlighting, chasing, capturing, measuring and releasing wombats as well as assisting in data collection. You will also encounter a range of other animals whilst exploring the natural beauty of the Murraylands mallee environment.

  • You must be physically fit and healthy (wombats can reach speeds of up to 40km/hr!)
  • Wombats are nocturnal so be prepared for late nights.
  • Accommodation is in an historic shearing shed located on a farming property near Swan Reach.
  • You will sleep in a swag within the shearing shed.
  • Hot water, fridge and cooking facilities are provided.
  • Toilet facilities include a bush shower and long drop dunny.
  • All meals and snacks are included.
  • Other activities include a Murray River nature education trip, a visit to see other endangered marsupials and more.

This is a true outback, rugged, wombat-wrangling adventure you will never forget.
