As a conservation charity, every visit, adoption, donation and ticket helps save species from extinction

Adelaide Zoo safe and open for business tomorrow

Adelaide Zoo will be open tomorrow morning as per usual opening hours with Emergency Services confident that the zoo is now safe for public entry.

Based on their investigations, Emergency Services have advised there is no longer a risk to public safety, after an attempt to break into an ATM located near the zoo entrance on Friday morning.

Zoos South Australia Chief Executive Elaine Bensted said she looked forward to welcoming the public as normal tomorrow.

“It is our intention to have Adelaide Zoo open tomorrow and we look forward to welcoming the public back through the gates in the morning,” Elaine Bensted said.

“Any explosive is dangerous and we have taken all precautions to ensure the safety of our visitors and of course our much-loved animals.

“As a conservation charity, it is disappointing that this crime forced the closure of the zoo for an entire day.

“Any disturbance to the zoo’s operating hours impacts on our income which in turn, impacts our important conservation work to save species from extinction.

“Thankfully, no people or animals were injured or harmed during the incident; however, animals close to the exclusion zone during the police investigation were moved to their night quarters as a precaution.

“We thank the South Australian Police, the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service and anyone affected by today’s closure for their support.”

The retail shop will remain closed over the weekend until further notice as SAPOL continue their investigation and repair work to the ATM is carried out.

The Panda Shop near Fig Tree Café will be open all weekend.
